Who Do You Think You’re Foolin’
Hearing Peggy Lee’s Fever in the lobby of a trendy NYC hotel, was the inspiration for this tune and its arrangement. I sat down with pen and paper and Who Do Think You’re Foolin‘ was born. It was, by far, the easiest song I’ve ever written.Foolin‘ is pretty straightforward, lyrically. Deceit can be obvious… if you allow yourself to notice.
The musicians hired for the live sessions all had jazz backgrounds. Though they were given a demo version of the song, their instincts for the genre took over once in the studio. After the first take, Frank Verderosa (producer) came in the booth and said “John, they’re really playing around you. Is that ok?” Although I had written a pop song with a jazz feel, they gave it more of a legitimate sound and I loved it. Buy now!

Somethin’ behind that pretty face
Somethin’ in those big blue eyes
Well I know you’re hiding somethin’,
So don’t insult me with these lies
Don’t you think I know you by now
And figured you out somehow
How did I know and when did it show
Hey lady, who do think you’re foolin
Hey lady, who do think you’re foolin
Please don’t say
I don’t know what I’m talkin’ about
‘Cause it’s written where I’m lookin’
Don’t embarrass yourself

John.
Hope all is well with you as well! I have listened to the new songs and like “Who Do You Think You’re Foolin” the best, but as always it is very hard to really pick a favorite when all of them are wonderful. I hope soon they will be on a CD!
My Best To You,
Your Friend,
Donna
