Soul, Pride

Soul, Pride was specifically written with kids in mind. In these challenging times, it’s harder than ever for them to make the right choices/decisions. The lyrics try to engage them into looking inside themselves and not be swayed by peer pressure or succumb to force-fed media content. It’s important for them, for all of us, to remain hopeful for a better and brighter tomorrow.

In the studio, we recorded members from a Harlem gospel choir that gave us
a soulful springboard for the lyrics to “..rise above.” David Mann (sax), Mike Davis (trombone) and Barry Danielian (trumpet) really got a workout on this one. It was such a pleasure to watch these guys work. Buy now!

Brother, choices paint a picture
Of your life My little sister, choices will decide
How you will live
How you will die

There’s got to be some understanding
Between the heart and mind
There’s got to be some understanding

Have soul, take pride
Truth we must recognize
Have soul, soul, take pride
Hope is all I have for tomorrow

Anger and frustration find a place
Way down, deep inside
But violence dissolves any hope
For true redemption

There’s got to be some understanding
Don’t you think its time
There’s got to be some understanding

You’ve got to build it up
 You’re   self-esteem
You’ve got to break them down
 These walls that surround you
You’ve got to rise above
You know you’ve got to baby
 You’ve got to believe
